Gallery of Naïve Artists Trebnje in 2025: From Watercolor to Ethnological Heritage

The 2025 program of the Gallery of Naïve Artists will feature a diverse array of exhibitions and events. We will explore the watercolor technique, showcase local naïve artists, delve into urban naïve art, and shed light on Slovenian customs and traditions through artworks. The highlight of the year will be the 58th International Meeting of Naive Artists. Join us for engaging guided tours, lectures, and an exciting program during our open-door days.

The following exhibition projects are planned for the period 1 October 2024 to 2026:

The secret of watercolour – the power of colour and light (till February 9, 2025)

This exhibition will explore the watercolor technique, its use among naïve artists, common motifs, and its combination with other techniques. It will be tied to a simultaneous exhibition, The Secret of Watercolor, organized by the Trebnje Art Society in collaboration with CIK and held at STIK Hall from October 24 to December 24, 2024.
The GLST collection offers numerous thematic choices and opportunities to exhibit works from the gallery’s depot.

New Acquisitions (Autumn 2024–Summer 2025)

A section of the permanent exhibition dedicated to new acquisitions refreshes and enriches the Gallery’s permanent display each year, featuring works from the most recent or penultimate camp. The 2024 exhibition will showcase works created during the 56th camp in 2023.

Group Exhibition from the Collection: Local Artists on Display (February 20–May 18, 2025)

This exhibition will present local naïve artists either born in or connected to the Temeniška and Mirna Valleys. The GLST collection includes works by eight local artists: Viktor Magyar, Franc Tavčar, Sandi Leskovec, Olga Kolar, Anton Kostanjevec, Ciril Povše, Lucijan Reščič, and Stanislav Novak. Each will be represented by several works and a short biography. The exhibition aims to inspire younger generations to continue the tradition.

Urban Naïve Art (Spring–Autumn 2025)

This exhibition will highlight works from the GLST collection with urban themes and motifs. Selected works depict idealized visions of urban reality, orderly streets, beautifully shaped trees, and people.

New Acquisitions (Summer 2025 –Winter 2026)

A refreshed section of the permanent exhibition will feature works created during the 57th camp in 2024.

Ethnological Heritage in Naïve Artworks (Autumn 2025–February 2026)

This exhibition will showcase works from the GLST collection that illustrate Slovenian customs, traditions, and ways of life from the past.

Exhibition of the 56th Camp Award Winner, Marija Kozyrenko (in 2026)

The award winner of the 56th International Camp, Marija Kozyrenko, a Ukrainian painter based in France, will present her work.

58th International Meeting of Naive Artists (June 10–14, 2025)

The International Meetings of Naive Artists have been a traditional gallery event for over five decades, held annually from the second to the third Saturday in June. At the end of the week-long gathering, participating artists donate a work to the gallery’s collection. This key museum activity fosters regular monitoring and evaluation of current production while providing opportunities for quality additions to the collection and connections with artists.
