Duration: from 24 October 2024 to 9 February 2025
The curator Damjana Šalehar writes in the introduction to the catalogue: Translucency, airiness, colourful intensity, spontaneity are the terms that describe the painting technique of watercolour. This light technique is popular mainly because of its versatility, ease and speed of use, and the brilliance of its colours. At first sight, it is an uncomplicated, simple, but only seemingly straightforward painting technique. Watercolour requires experience, speed and precision on the part of the painter and does not allow for major corrections.
The exhibition presents the work of self-taught painters, each working in their own original way in the watercolour technique. The works on display differ in their motifs and pictorial language, giving us a glimpse of one of the most complex as well as the oldest painting techniques. The exhibitors are Ivan Lacković, Jerko Biško, Linden Dean, Josip Boltižar, Georganna Malloff, Minna Lehväslaiho, Tomislav Petranović Rvat – Thoma, Petar Grgec, Ivan rabuzin, Miloš Lapajne, Brane Praznik, Jožica Škof and Robert Hlavaty. A catalogue has been published to accompany the exhibition and is available for purchase in our gallery at a price of € 5.50.
At the same time, an exhibition of watercolours by amateur painters is on display in the lower hall of STIK until 24 December 2024, organised in cooperation with the gallery by the Trebnje Artists’ Association.
