EVERYDAY AND CELEBRATION: Ethnographic Heritage in the Works of Self-Taught Artists. 24 October 2025–5 April 2026

Discover depictions of rural life — the daily tasks, customs, and celebrations of the farming people.

Scenes from everyday life are a characteristic theme in the world of naïve artists. The exhibited works present the daily life of peasants and craftsmen, their chores, customs, and festivities. The predominantly rural subject matter is typical above all of the older generation, which includes the classics of Slovenian naïve and self-taught art: Viktor Magyar, Anton Repnik, Polde Mihelič, Jože Peternelj, Konrad Peternelj, Anton Plemelj, Janko Dolenc, as well as Greta Pečnik, Franc Tavčar, Zlata Volarič, Sandi Leskovec, and Boris Žohar.

The exhibited works vividly and narratively illuminate everyday life of a particular time and place, contributing to the preservation of Slovenian ethnographic and cultural heritage.

The exhibition is prepared in collaboration with Dr. Bojana Rogelj Škafar, museum councillor and curator of folk art and visual sources at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum.
